Duration: 1 day
An itinerary through the Morainic Hills of Garda area, sweet hills scattered with vines of Lugana and Garda Classico, between the provinces of Mantua and Brescia.
You reach Solferino, a historic town of the Risorgimento where the "Spy of Italy", the tower overlooking the Po Valley and the Morainic Hills, is worth a visit. Near the tower the monument dedicated to the Red Cross that was born here and the Church-Ossuary dedicated to the heroes of the Risorgimento.
Next stop Cavriana, in the province of Mantua, with the remains of the ancient castle, Villa Mirra, home to a beautiful Archaeological Museum, and a delightful Romanesque church just outside the town.
Continuing on the gentle hills of the Alto Mantovano, it is worth passing quickly through Volta Mantovana and visiting Villa Guerrieri Gonzaga, the current municipal seat, open to the public, and its beautiful garden.
Next stop Borghetto and Valeggio sul Mincio.
At the entrance to Borghetto, the magnificent Visconteo Bridge awaits us, a delightful and romantic village located right on the Mincio River. From Borghetto, always on foot, it is possible to skirt the Mincio river or go up towards the beautiful Scaligero Castle of Valeggio.
Get back on the spider and set off again in the direction of Monzambano along the road that runs alongside the river Mincio. In Monzambano, the castle located in the center of the town deserves a quick visit.
Here we are now in one of the villages belonging, together with Borghetto, to the club of the "most beautiful villages in Italy", namely Castellaro Lagusello, a tiny medieval center.
Passing through Pozzolengo, a tiny village enclosed by the castle walls, you arrive at San Martino della Battaglia where the magnificent Tower awaits you, emblem of the Risorgimento and extraordinary observation point of Lake Garda and the whole surrounding area.
From San Martino, in a few minutes, we arrive in the romantic Sirmione, where the Scaligero Castle, the Grotte di Catullo and the tiny Church of San Pietro in Mavino await us.
The itinerary ends in the fashionable Desenzano del Garda, with its Roman Villa, the Cathedral, the characteristic harbor and the remains of the ancient castle.
Park the spider, two steps up to the characteristic lighthouse to watch the sunset, ready for a new, fascinating Slow Drive itinerary.
